Lotties journey

2022 - 2023

Created by Abbey one year ago

On 4th June 2022 Gemma and Jason were hit with the most devastating news any parent could ever receive, their 6 year old daughter and the youngest of their 3 children, Lottie, has an inoperable very aggressive and very rare brain tumour. That same day, Lottie underwent urgent surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital to drain the fluid that was creating pressure on her brain. After a few days recovering in hospital, the drain was safe to remove and a shunt was fitted. Lottie was allowed to come home while they awaited the results of the biopsy. Unfortunately, Lottie only made it home for one day before the fluid began to build up again and she was rushed back into hospital for emergency surgery to fit a second permanent shunt that will keep the fluid draining. At this time Gemma and Jason were told that the biopsy results were inconclusive due to not having enough of a sample so they will have to perform a 3rd operation to obtain another biopsy.
On 14th June, after enduring 3 brain surgeries and following a further CT scan and endless MRI scans, Gemma and Jason’s worlds came crashing down when they were informed by the surgeon that in those 10 days the tumour had grown so rapidly that their time left with Lottie was limited. We were then told of the diagnosis.

Lottie then underwent another sugery to fit a hickman line so she could endure 10 long months of chemotherapy. Along with that lottie had 6 weeks of intense radiotherapy in London Which really took its toll on little Lottie, as she needed to go under anesthetic every day. Through out all the treatment lottie was needing blood and platelet transfusions weekly, numerous amounts of antibiotics via IV line and endless trips in and out of the John Radcliffe.

During the hickman line surgery, lottie also had a stomach peg fitted as she deteriorated so much and couldn't tolerate food, she needed to be fed via her tube.

Through all this treatment, lotte never complained once and always managed to keep a smile on her face. Lottie touched so many hearts every where she went.

Through all the bad times lottie got to expierience her wish to go to disney land paris, through the support from friends and family.

Gemma and Jason are the most doting, generous parents and the most caring people you could wish to meet.
From the moment Lottie was born she has been the most vibrant, energetic and adventurous little girl. She is the bravest and most courageous girl we know and even after all she’s been through over the past year she still had a smile on her face and made us all laugh with her cheeky little character. She really is Super girl!
